Last July 14-18, 2017, the World Mathematics Invitational (WMI) held its finals at the Ton Duc Thang University in Ho Chi Minh City of Vietnam. The renowned WMI is the first international comprehensive competition founded by Taiwan where institutes and organizations worldwide are gathered to make efforts in promoting and popularizing Mathematics.
Xavier School, San Juan’s very own Mikhail Stefan G. Borbe of Grade 7I and Amery Caleb C. Atinon of Grade 8A competed during the said event where both bagged silver and bronze medals respectively as they represented the Philippines. The Philippine team was composed of Grade 6-8 students who are distinguished Singapore and Asian Schools Math Olympiad (SASMO) awardees, a competition considered to be one of the largest Math contests in Asia. This enabled both students to earn the honor of representing the country in the WMI.
During the WMI, both competed against other student contestants hailing from other countries such as America, China, Taiwan, Korea, Thailand, Indonesia, Singapore, Malaysia, Nigeria, Hong Kong, Macao, and Iran.
Both Xaverians showed a great deal of competence in representing the country during the said event. Xavier School is very proud and congratulates them for a job well done. The XS community continues to support them as they continue to pursue and excel in all their endeavors. Luceat Lux!
